On Australia- Day III, Taronga Zoo and a ferry tour + sunset over Sydney Harbour!

A few notes on the Taronga Zoo. Taronga believes strongly in animal welfare and husbandry, as well as education. They have multiple breeding programs, were the second zoo in Australia to breed platypuses, and the first in Oz to have a baby elephant born within its walls. They are all about conservation and are AMAZING!!

Yup, Playfair.

First the ferry...

...then a gondola to the top!!

Eeeee!! Elephants from the gondola!!

And dinosaurs everywhere!! The exhibit is closing soon, so I'm glad we got to see them!

Into the aviary... all I could think was 'Man, that's one big bird cage!' (I WAS seeing dinosaurs!!)

Each of the dinosaurs had a little sign not only giving some info on it, but also comparing one of it's traits to an animal still living but nearing extinction.

These were lying close by the t-rex...

And this is how they work!

On command he jumped off the rock into the water, then straight up to hit the ball!

A rhino made of bottle caps... imagine collecting all those!

Loooove giraffes!!

Doooooown the gondola!

After we finished at the zoo we toured around the harbour on the ferry on a guided tour. It reminded me a little bit of the double-decker bus tour Claire and I took in New York!

We hopped off the ferry at Manly Beach, then RAN to the beach so I could dip my toes in before the next ferry came. It was lovely!

There were a bunch of statues down by the Rocks. I forgot to get shots of them our first trek down, so I made sure to grab some before we left Sydney!

We do highly recommend The Rocks, if you're ever looking for a place to stay in Sydney. We saw couples, singles, families... you name it! We can't say enough good things about it. Here's the website if you want to check it out some more!

To finish off our day we watched the sun set over Sydney harbour. Did I tell you our hostel had the most amazing roof? Our first night we watched Back to the Future on it, and we could easily see Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House from it!!
